Overview Urgent Care Overview Definition: Urgent care is convenient and appropriate professional care for conditions that require quick medical attention, but are not life threatening. Urgent care serves as an alternative to the hospital emergency department and your personal physician when a timely appointment is not available. Urgent care is appropriate for injuries too severe to be seen in a primary care physician office but not severe enough to require treatment in a hospital emergency department. Think of urgent care for minor injuries and/or illnesses such as cuts, burns, asthma, back pain, ear infections, fever, dehydration, animal/insect bites, urinary tract infections, rashes, flu, colds, sore throats, and upset stomachs. Value: Urgent care provides quality medical care with significant savings to patients and insurance companies over the alternative of the hospital emergency department. Convenience: According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), patient visits to hospital emergency departments currently average 3.2 hours (representing emergency department overcrowding). Many of the problems currently treated in hospital emergency departments, can receive timely/cost effective treatment in less than one hour in an urgent care center, and you do not need an appointment. Hours: Most urgent care centers offer extended hours in the evenings and on weekends for patients to receive treatment when their personal physician is not available. Continuity of Care: With patient approval, the doctor notes and any test results from your visit at Accent Urgent Care & After Hours Pediatrics will be sent to your personal physician.
